Hospital Partnership:
Together for the newborns!
In recent years, a number of partnerships have developed between clinics in Hamburg and Dar es Salaam. Other organizations also work together in the Health Network.
We would like to invite you to get a first-hand impression of these partnerships and also to meet some of our Tanzanian partners.
There are new funding opportunities for partnerships, whether they are clinic partnerships or joint research projects. One example is the cooperation between Altona Children’s Hospital and Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam.
Altona Children’s Hospital learned that though new equipment had been delivered to the neonatal ward at Muhimbili, that too little attention had been paid to training the doctors and nurses to use it. Without further ado, the head of the neonatal department, Dr. von der Wense, decided that this had to change and agreed to get involved.
In 2019, for the first time, two female doctors from Dar es Salaam will come to Hamburg for a four-week observation period. They are very enthusiastic about receiving targeted training here and are looking forward to imparting the new knowledge and routine handling to their colleagues soon.
In the next step, doctors from AKK will then get to know Muhimbili Hospital. This involves courses on specific topics such as ultrasound training for the heart and brain and the continuation of training in breathing aids for critically ill newborns.
We have succeeded in securing stable funding through the clinic partnerships.
