Urban planning:
Universities and Cities

The focus of the collaboration is on the following topics:

  • Climate adaptation measures (flooding and heat) in dense inner-city areas, water-sensitive urban development
  • Development concepts for green spaces and streets
  • Development of decentralized rainwater and sanitation concepts in informal settlements
  • Waste management planning to reduce plastic waste

The cooperation between the two universities Ardhi and HCU has existed since around 2007.

Since then, there have been several bilateral student exchanges as well as various research visits by individual students for Master’s theses and project work.
In 2016, Dr. A. Mosha from Ardhi University received his doctorate from HafenCity University.

CONTRIBUTE

We are always looking for other scientists or students who are interested in working with us on the above-mentioned topics.

We are also interested in cooperating with other organizations. (e.g. NGOs, SMEs)

Report to Prof. Dickhaut if interested.

Since 2019, a joint focus on the above-mentioned topics has been developed. Since then, the two universities – also together with the Water Institute Tanzania – have been cooperating in specific (research) projects for which funding has been obtained from the BMBF, BMU and BMZ. In jointly organized workshops and excursions, students and teaching staff have the opportunity to exchange and develop their ideas. The collaboration results in master’s theses and doctoral projects that are supervised by each other. Through cooperation with municipal and regional administrations and various NGOs, the findings should be incorporated into planning practice as quickly as possible
