The Förderverein Marangu e.V. was founded 25 years ago in the environment of the evangelical parish Hamburg Volksdorf St. Gabriel. It works interdenominationally and supports the community Marangu, which is located directly at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro at an altitude of about 1500 m, in the areas of health, education, and training. The association is financed exclusively by donations and contributions of the members and cooperates among other things with the North German Environmental Foundation and the Rotary Club Verden/Aller.
The association arranges further training opportunities for employees of the hospital, schools, and kindergartens, both locally and in Germany through the exchange of specialists. Vocational students and young people from Hamburg were able to gain insights into the Tanzanian way of life through their participation in the projects “Construction of a chapel in Marangu Hospital”, “Electrification of a hospital ward with a photovoltaic system”, “Conversion of the lighting in the hospital to energy-saving lamps” and ” Electrical installation of two newly built classrooms”.
Members of our association travel to Marangu at regular intervals (at their own expense, of course) to check up on things, inspect projects, check invoices and receipts, and also to maintain personal contact with members of MACDA. The voluntary commitment without administrative costs ensures that all funds reach the right place without loss and are looked after in a qualified manner.
