This year’s Nobel Prize for Literature was surprisingly awarded to the Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah, who lives in England. In its citation, the Nobel Committee recognized him for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gap between cultures and continents.
