Educational projects for women

The non-profit Marie Schlei Association has been supporting women’s education projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America since 1984 and is building partnerships with local women’s organizations in the countries of the Global South. It primarily supports training programs that are developed and implemented by local women’s groups and open up career prospects for women. More than 600 projects have been supported worldwide to date. At the same time, the Marie Schlei Association provides information about the role of women in Africa, Asia and Latin America in development education seminars in Germany. 32 projects have been supported in Tanzania since our first project with one of our Tanzanian partner organizations in 1986.

The Marie Schlei Association has been committed to the economic empowerment of women for over 40 years. With our subsidiary initiative BE INDEPENDENT: Her Ambition – Our Vision, we support projects that enable women to generate their own income through targeted training, education and empowerment programs. In close, trusting cooperation with our Tanzanian partners – such as the Ladies Joint Forum and Jenga Kilimanjaro Outreach in Dar es Salaam – we have already successfully implemented several projects. We are particularly proud of the tuk-tuk project “She Drives to Change”, which has trained 30 young women as drivers. They are now asserting themselves in a male-dominated professional field and have been strengthened both individually and as a joint cooperative. Future projects, such as another tuk-tuk project in Mwanza and the “Mama Ntilie Bora” project, also show how valuable the exchange and cooperation at eye level are. Our shared experiences confirm this: Working together, sharing knowledge and taking local needs seriously create sustainable, economic independence. Strong women promote a strong and secure future. This is exactly where we come in.
