A Wall is a Screen

A Wall is a Screen, the B-Movie cinema and ajabu ajabu have been in active dialogue since 2022. Based on similar structures, an intensive discourse and joint projects in Hamburg and Dar es Salaam have emerged intuitively and synergistically. The joint participatory curatorial work has resulted in several low-threshold cultural programmes. So far, the focus has been on spaces and access, performance dispositives and questions of representation and visibility. Of course, the shared history of Hamburg and Dar es Salaam is always present.

A Wall is a Screen transforms facades and other structures into screens, creating an original, thought-provoking and always entertaining new look at the city’s architecture. In 2023, A Wall is a Screen organised a site-specific short film tour in Dar-es-Salaam and a three-day workshop in collaboration with ajabu ajabu and with the support of the Goethe-Institut. There too, of course, free of charge, non-commercial and open to all.

The Hamburg-based collective always curates with a broad thematic diversity and presents its short film tours at film festivals and in collaboration with cultural institutions around the world.
