SUMMARY:Abeneko & The Positive Mind - Bongo Fusion from Tanzania
DESCRIPTION:Abeneko is a live performer\, singer\, songwriter\, guitarist and choreographer from Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. Since his song “Salam” released in 2017\, he has been bringing his own genre of music called “Bongo Fusion” to the stage\, a mixture of current East African beats\, singeli\, funk and Afro-fusion\, combined with traditional dances\, melodies and rhythms. The band is known for its energetic live performances full of stories and strong messages. It is important to Abeneko that the messages of his songs go beyond simple slogans: “I want young Tanzanians to respect their own musical heritage\, because we are losing our sense of self in Dar.” Dar es Salaam\, the cultural capital of Tanzania\, is called “bongo” or “brain” in Swahili to illustrate the madness of life in one of Africa’s busiest megacities. \nFree admission

SUMMARY:From the forest to the street' documentary photography by Imani Nsamila
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition in the Municipal Hall of Barmstedt City Hall. Tanzania is considered one of the countries most affected by climate change and also the world’s largest consumer of charcoal. The rapidly growing business metropolis and capital Dar es Salaam alone needs half of this. Millions of households rely on charcoal as fuel in their daily lives. Tanzanian photographer Imani Nsamila’s poignant photo documentary follows the mostly illegal process of tree clearing and coal production through to the ready-for-sale coal product for the market. The extent of this nature-hostile process\, which secures many jobs in the country\, becomes clear through the pictures and demands sustainable alternatives for the preservation of the climate.

SUMMARY:Deforestation and climate change in Tanzania (photo tour)
DESCRIPTION:Invitation\nDeforestation and climate change in Tanzania\nA photo journey by Imani Nsamila\nA photo exhibition as part of the Hamburg Photo Triennale in Hamburg \nTanzania is one of the countries most affected by the climate crisis. The country is suffering from global warming\, drought\, severe flooding and the resulting displacement of the population. \nHeavy reliance on fuelwood and charcoal has led to deforestation\, carbon emissions\, and potential desertification. Tanzania is one of the largest consumers of charcoal in the world\, with Dar es Salaam supplying more than half of this demand. As a rapidly growing city with an increasing population\, the demand for charcoal will continue to increase each year. Although much of the local charcoal is obtained illegally\, millions of people rely on it as a resource and source of income. \nThe goal of the exhibition is to bring climate issues closer to the public in order to effect change. \nImani Nsamila is an internationally renowned photographer from Dar es Salaam who has just received the Global Climate Change Alliance+ East African Award for Photography (East/Central Africa region). He is touched by ordinary people and nature and wants to use his photography for a better world. \nMeet the Artist!\nSunday 5 June 2022 at 2 pm \nExhibition opening\nJune 1 at 14:00\nwith the artist Imani Nsamila\, free admission. \nExhibition from 1 – 6 June 2022 \nat the Deutsches Hafenmuseum\nSchuppen 50a\, Australiastraße\, 20457 Hamburg\nMon\, Wed\, Thu\, Fri – 10 am to 5 pm\, Sat + Sun – 10 am to 6 pm
